Burst - Brutus (2017)

And we continue with the surprises, this time with a debut, reported by LGC, of TBM. I am amazed from how much "underground" there is in little Belgium; Brutus are in fact a trio from Leuven, composed by Stjin on guitar, Peter on bass, and by Stefanie on drums and voice. They're debutant and are playing live a little everywhere, as well as bands looking for a place in the sun. We could simply define the genre played by Brutus as post-rock, but knowing that today this term is a little abused, I will try to give you some more coordinates. There is shoegaze, there is blast beat, there is an invitation to dance, just on their Facebook page (at the end of the line-up, after their three names and instruments, there is "You - dance"), but do not expect properly dance elements, but a deep research for the melody that starts from the shoegazing, and go on with Stefanie's voice, that may be abuses of the artificial reverb, but that actually gives a profound contribution to the construction of a sound definitely distinctive. The very short song "Crack/Waste" is a striking example of what I'm trying to explain to you, probably unsuccessfully. What's true is that this band has made a debut album more than promising, that you should not let run away.
