Hiss Spun - Chelsea Wolfe (2017)

I just read a particularly bad review on fifth Chelsea Joy Wolfe's (33-year-old, from German and Norwegian descendants, born in Roseville, California and raised in Sacramento), and I even understood what this person argued, finding interesting things as well. But, you know, art is subjective, and Chelsea is liked here, she like me even more after the live concert I saw last year, and it was impossible I does not like her after a record (which will officially be released on September 22), in which, officially from several parts, is defined as its definitive embrace of metal. Produced by Kurt Ballou (Converge), featuring illustrious collaborations by Troy Van Leuween (QOTSA) and Aaron Turner (Isis), the album encloses 11 songs and one interlude, extremely engaging, heavy, where Wolfe mixes drones, metal guitars, reverbs, dark lyrics, gothic atmospheres. Dark metal? Maybe babe. If we have to find a flaw, a certain homogeneity of the tracks; but the aggressive approach, and the atmosphere, as it was already said, decadent, gloomy, but decisively engaging, enveloping, emotional and empathic, broadly repays the listener. "Static Hum" it's like a manifesto of all this beauty, and you know, Pain is Beauty.
