Masseduction - St Vincent (2017)

Bellissimo disco.

As usual, it takes time to "access" into the records of Anne Erin Clark aka St. Vincent, here at her fifth album. I fell in love with her music with her third "Strange Mercy", after which I did not like "Love This Giant", her collaboration with David Byrne in 2012, and I could not get in the right mood to understand the previous (to this) "St. Vincent". This time, taking the right time, I'm enjoying listening, and first I have to say that the "futuristic pop" label, is the most appropriate one to try to describe the kaleidoscope of musical influences that, Miss Clark, polistrumentist wit a beautiful and versatile voice, is able to pour into this disc. No doubt, the aforementioned David Byrne is one of those influences, probably still the strongest today, but as experts say, Bowie and Kate Bush are among the most recognizable. But within her 3/4 minutes musical frescoes, there are a lot of things inside. The arrangements are another of her strengths, along with a marked irony. The lyrics, she said, are the most personal, compared to previous records. Jack Antonoff has contributed a great deal to songwriting, and the guest list is very long, all people not too familiar, but definitely good. The prize of the most beautiful song, in my opinion, is divided between "Happy Birthday, Johnny" and "New York". Very beautiful disc.
