I Vuur (fuoco, in olandese) sono il nuovissimo progetto di Anneke van Giersbergen, già cantante dei The Gathering, e della quale abbiamo parlato qualche settimana fa, a proposito del suo album dello scorso anno insieme agli islandesi Arstidir. Voluto dalla stessa Anneke, con una line-up tutta olandese di musicisti ottimi e da lei già conosciuti tramite le sue esperienze passate (non ultima quella dei The Gentle Storm), si prefigge di essere molto metal, mentre tramite la sua ulteriore carriera solista, così dice lei, continuerà ad esplorare l'altro estremo musicale, quello folk e soft.
Naturalmente, ai fan dei Converge, considerare i Vuur un estremo potrebbe suonare come una barzelletta, ma è una questione di punti di vista. I Vuur suonano progressive metal con influenze djent, ma naturalmente, la voce di Anneke tinge tutto con una sfumatura molto diversa, più "gentile" e melodica, ariosa e quasi classica. Non è sicuramente la mia tazza di té, così come quella di molti altri che conosco, ma certamente è ben fatto.
The Vuur (fire, in Dutch) are the newest project by Anneke van Giersbergen, former singer of The Gathering, and of which we talked about a few weeks ago, about her album from last year with the Icelandic Arstidir. Wanted by the same Anneke, with an all-Dutch line-up of excellent musicians, and that she already known through her past experiences (not least that of The Gentle Storm), aims to be very metal, while through her further solo career, so she says, she will continue to explore the other extreme musical, folk and soft.
Of course, for Converge fans, considering the Vuur an extreme might sound like a joke, but it's a matter of point of view. The Vuur play progressive metal with djent influences, but of course, Anneke's voice tinges everything with a very different, more "gentle" and melodic, airy and almost classical tone. It is definitely not my cup of tea, as well as that of many others I know, but it certainly is well done.
